The 5 stars is out of fairness to a kit that has not been used yet; I'll edit later, as deserving. It just arrived and I've been looking for drill bits since then. I see all the glowing reviews and only a couple of mentions that you have to use hex shank drill bits. I only read a dozen reviews before ordering, practically salivating over the great reviews. I did not realize the drill would also be a hex drive and that there's a truly limited drill bit selection on the market. The quality of most two-piece bits has been called into question on reviews of those bits. I am considering buying the adapt-a-drive keyed chuck (by Jacobs) so I can use the vast array of round bits already on hand and I did buy a set of Ryobi TiN coated bits with hex drives to try (hmmm????). I have gobs of driver stuff on hand and found that most sets only provide 5 or 6 drill bits with 30 pcs of redundant driver parts. I'd love to know how others are getting so much happy drilling done?? Thanks for any advice/input on the real business end of the work, now that we all know the units are GREAT.

These two little Makita's are super! I have had this set for over 2 years and they get the most use (home improvement business). I also have the big brother Makita's 18volt lith. I keep going to these two in most of my jobs because they are small , light and very powerful. The batteries last a long time and recharge quickly. Again, Makita has a true winner here.

But , what's with the fancy storage box?...keep the tin box and give me a 3rd battery in the package. Overall this combo is very very good.

I ordered these through a "deal of the day" and I am very pleased with the size and power of these little units. I read the review criticizing the drill for not having an adjustable chuck but that is not a factor. I have bits that fit into this chuck already. The best part is that I throw these into my tool bag and they fit without adding extra bulk. The charger is even relatively compact. The power, especially for the impact driver is adequate for my needs. I couldn't be more pleased.

I received the item today. When I open the box, I noticed the scratch on the box. Also inside the box, only the drill has the plastic bag. The impact driver looks worn and not new. The date on the impact driver is 8/08, and on the drill is 12/09. Something is not right.



I am sure this is either refurbished item or returned item. I cannot believe that Amazon ship it to me as a new item.

I love tools and acquire as many as I my wife will allow--new, used, trades, reclaimed, etc. This Makita 10.8v Li-Ion combo kit is easily the best tool acquisition I have made in years! I've used them just about every day for the past two months and they have lived up to every glowing review I read prior to purchasing. There's no need to re-state all of the good stuff others have written, so I'll just highlight my own favorite features: the light weight and the well-balanced, ergonomic grip. I can use these drills skillfully with either hand after only minimal practice and they are comfortable to hold and stable in a variety of positions. Very often I'll find myself holding one upside-down with my palm at the rear of the drill or driver and directly in-line with the bit for added pressure and control. I had been a huge fan of the quick-flip drill and drive system for countersinking screws, but nothing beats having a dedicated drill and driver, especially when you can hold one in your left hand and one in your right! Buy these and you will not be disappointed.

I like this combo kit. I use these tools for set building, and switch them all day. I use the drill a lot, but granted, I don't use anything continuously all day. The drill is great, usually the torque autoshift is just convenient and faster, but sometimes it would be nice to start manually downshifted, though pulling the trigger just a little fits the bill. The trigger though has too long of a pull before it activates. The magnetic screw holder is a lifesaver. This tool is heavier and less torquey than the big names, but does everything I've needed... anything else would be a job for a more powerful tool in the first place. The saws are both totally awesome, especially the circular. The safeties are a slightly annoying feature... come on, these are power tools, they are inherently unsafe, and no safety will stop a fool from hurting himself! Ryobi is the only brand to include this (ironically, what looks like a safety in other brands actually locks the saw trigger in place). The light is great, though for at least the past three years no light can be excused for not being an LED, and it's not. Does Ryobi, or most of the other manufacturers for that matter, think we failed to notice the rapid proliferation of these lights? The batteries are great... these lithium tools are better than any NiCads of any brand. And the fact that they slap in instead of slide on like Makita or Milwaukee is far easier. I appreciate that the batteries are backwards compatible to previous tools... though I wish they would hurry up and make everything this green color so all my future stuff would match! The charge level button on the battery is so cool and useful, though it isn't present on the compact one. I would rather have had two large batteries, though I appreciate a lighter battery once in a while.



I was worried about buying this kit, some people bag on Ryobi tools because they're cheaper... but they work fantastic! Bottom line is that I could not have afforded most brands of combo kit, and I needed tools! I gave them a shot, as they were warranted, and these tools work very well... they've made me an independent force to be reckoned with! I'll be looking into the power paint backpack system soon. Thanks, Ryobi, you're helping me work like a pro even though I'm just starting out.

I cant speak for the factory reconditioned set, but I bought this same set new from a local big chain hardware store and have loved it ever since.... my one complaint is the circular saw is only 5 1/2 and can BARELY cut all the way through 2x4s... the light is so bright you can feel the heat from the beam a foot away... the drill has REALLY been put to use and only after building an entire jungle gym have I killed a battery all the way.... nice surprise was the unmentioned magnetic tray built into the drill for bits and screws. Great set for the average home tinkerer, but if you're just looking for discount construction tools, don't be butthurt when they cant keep up..... you get what you pay for.

I was looking forward on getting this tool combo, right out of the box, holding either one had some discomfort in the handle. On the drill the bit attachment is in a bad place, Keep scratching my hands on it.



The first screw I tried to sink with the driver, The head on the bit sheared right off, The first screw? I am guessing it is with the clutch. I am disappointed, I though with the Popular mechanics best tool review, it would be good, Sadly this is going back, To many faults for a tool that is priced the same as the Milwaukee,



I manly bought for the lifetime batteries, You need to send the bad ones to them and then you get a new one, remember down time with no battery and the shipping cost both ways, they charge almost $7.00 to ship to you. I gave it 2 stars, being that I like the green and the bag

So far I have used these for drilling and screwing into wood, metal and stucco. They work great. Plenty of power. I only wish the storage bag was larger for holding additional drill and driver bits. I also hope Rockwell adds additional tools to this lithium-ion line.

I bought that so called "Factory reconditioned" expecting the unexpected. The drill is a pce of grap, the end of the silver came loose and the drill power is drilling withing its own>Cannot even drill a simple task. On the other hand I was Amazed at the Reciprocating Saw... I have several skil tool and I was so ashamed of having to ackn that the worse of the worse is supposed to be their best tool. It seems that the tool was not even looked at, just put in a box and expecting the customer not to notice it. Come on>It is a return for a reason...Just trash it of sell the parts away.I have never bought a reconditioned tool before and what a "scandal." I will be returning it for a replacement and hope for the best. If the replacement is the same, I will just go to my mega store and buy one.

These are workhorse tools. It's hard to tell how much "snap" an old tool has lost until you try a new one. I like the new drill's compact size and the light comes in handy as well. Battery life and power are great, but I wouldn't expect anything less from a new Milwaukee tool. Time will be the final answer on that. The Sawsall is fine but the new additional front boot compromises the visual alignment of blade to work.

Makita's LXT211 includes a versatile 1/2-inch hammer driver-drill (BHP452Z). The BHP452Z features a Makita-built four-pole maximum torque motor that delivers 450 in.lbs. of Max Torque in a compact size. The BHP452Z has a Shift-Lock drive system sleeve that quickly shifts from "hammer drill" to "driver" mode. The two-speed all-metal transmission delivers 0-400 RPM in low speed and 0-1,500 RPM in high, covering a wide range of drilling and driving applications. We are at the end of the road for all of our P.C. 19.2's and we have been searching for the right direction to go. Finally made the choice and these are great. The batteries last a long time and have tons of power, but when they do run dry the charger is blazing fast(15 minutes is the truth). The lights are very bright; I thought there was a hole in the back of a cabinet letting in light when my business partner was using the drill. I keep telling him we can take them back and try a different brand, but all he does is come up with an excuse as to why we couldn't take them back. In other words, he is thrilled with the choice too. We highly recommend these and are hoping that Makita keeps making them for a long time. They are stout, and powerful. We've been skeptical about cordless hammer drills, but this one works perfect for the daily odds and ends into brick mortar and block (Obviously the rpm's aren't going to allow it to compete with a normal corded hammer drill for a bunch of concrete holes). The compact design of the impact drill makes it very useful for tight spaces and it doesn't hesitate on heavy anchors.

I generally like Makita tools, but as Andrew points out, the poorly-designed forward / reverse switch on these models is a real annoyance and might even be considered a safety hazard because it creates a distraction when you least expect one. The switch is precisely positioned to dig into my index finger, accidently throwing the tool into either the center trigger-lock position, or from the reverse position to the forward position at any time (I'm right-handed). Makita could have moved the switch 3 mm up and out of the way, but they didn't. After making a big deal out their ergonomics, it's truly stunning that Makita made such an obvious design blunder.



As stated elsewhere, yes, the battery charger fan is noisy and distracting. I know from my experience in building computers, that near-silent fans are readily available, but Makita chose to use a cheap noisy fan instead. Moreover, is any kind of fan really necessary?



I used to think of Makita as a cut above other brands, but my confidence is quickly eroding. I'm returning this kit and getting the DeWalt CDK265L instead. By the way, the new DeWalt lithium-ion batteries work in their older tools going back to 1996. Not so with the Makita batteries.

I have had the kit for a couple of months and really like it so far. The tools feel very solid, everythign works as expected and I have been very satified with the battery charge (speed of charging and holding of charge during storage are excellent and the amount of use on a single charge is good). The hammer drill is not quite as powerful as I hoped but it is not fair to compare it to the corded drills I have used before. It did get through a 1" piece of flagstone but it took a couple of charges and some time in the fridge when it got quite hot and started to loose some lubricant. The driver is great, you just want to have an assortment of bits for it to get full flexability.



The light and glow in the dark ring on the tools are also quite useful.

I have nothing but good to say about this set. I have only used it around the house but have used it quite a bit. the impact driver is amazing. I can efortlessly drive 4" dry wall screws with no stripping of the head. and the drill has plenty of power and speed. I drilled many 1" holes with an old not too sharp spade bit after doing a couple of other projects on one battery. also the chuck doesn't seem to losen like other drills i've used when under pressure. the lights have even come in handy. I have used many drills and cordless tools in the past. without a doubt these are the best i've used. the weight of these is great and they are well balanced. the handles are extremely cumfortable. I can't wait until my next decking project. the free super saver shipping was fast and everything arrived as it should.
